Short answer: in public listings checked on 28 October 2026, most used 20–22 ton excavators in India were asking ₹20–45 lakh, used 14 ton machines ₹11.5–32 lakh, and used mini excavators ₹7.5–22 lakh. A new 20 ton machine lists at roughly ₹51–75 lakh depending on brand. The rest of this guide breaks that down by tonnage, brand, model and year, and explains what pushes a price up or down.
How to read these numbers: every figure below is a seller's asking price or a list price we saw on a public website on 28 Oct 2026 (sources linked inline and listed at the end). They are not BuyExcavator.in or InfraX offers, and final deal prices are usually negotiated. For machines we actually have, see used excavators for sale.
Used excavator price by tonnage class
Tonnage (operating weight) is the first thing that sets the price band. The 20–22 ton class is the workhorse on Indian road, canal and building sites, so it has the most listings and the most stable prices.

Used excavator price by brand and model
Within the same class, brand and model change the price because of resale demand, parts availability and dealer network. These are individual listings we saw, so treat them as data points, not a price list.

We could not find enough current public used listings with prices for the Hyundai R140, Hyundai R215 or Volvo EC210 to quote a fair used range, so we have left them out rather than guess. New-machine prices for these are below. Brand pages: Tata Hitachi, JCB, Hyundai, Komatsu, SANY, Kobelco, Volvo.
Used 20 ton excavator price by year
Grouping the 20–22 ton listings above by model year gives a rough picture of depreciation. The spread inside each band is wide because hours, condition and location differ.

New vs used: reference prices for new excavators (Oct 2026)
A used price only makes sense next to what the same machine costs new. Listing sites do not always agree, and some note that prices are being revised after the GST 2.0 changes, so we show each site's figure separately.

Put simply: a clean 2020–2021 20 ton machine asking ₹30–45 lakh is roughly half to two-thirds of a new one, before GST, transport and insurance on either.
What drives a used excavator's price
- Hours on the meter. Hours matter more than the calendar. Compare the hour reading with wear on pins, bushes, pedals and the seat; a low reading on a tired-looking machine is a warning sign.
- Model year and emission generation. Newer machines carry newer engines and electronics, and lenders fund younger machines more easily, which keeps their resale higher.
- Undercarriage. Track chain, rollers, sprockets and idlers are among the most expensive parts to replace, so a worn undercarriage pulls the price down sharply.
- Hydraulics and engine. Pump noise, slow or drifting cylinders, leaks and blow-by all mean repair money the buyer will deduct.
- Papers. Invoice/RC, insurance and a loan NOC (if it was financed) make a machine easier to sell and to finance. Missing papers mean a lower price and fewer buyers.
- Brand and resale demand. Brands with dense service networks in your region sell faster and hold value better.
- Location. Moving a 20 ton crawler needs a low-bed trailer, so a machine close to your site can be worth more to you than a cheaper one far away.
- Attachments. A rock breaker line, extra bucket or long-reach front changes value either way, depending on the work you need.
GST, papers and the true landed cost
Excavators fall under HSN 8429, where GST is 18% (DesiMachines GST note). A GST-registered dealer or company selling a used machine will normally invoice with GST; an unregistered individual seller generally will not. Crawler excavators are not road-registered, so there is no RTO charge on a crawler, though you still need the purchase invoice, any earlier invoice/RC trail and insurance. Budget for low-bed transport to site and a first service after purchase. Check the GST treatment of your specific deal with your CA.
Used excavator loans: basics
- Who lends: banks and NBFCs that finance construction equipment. One finance adviser publishes used-machine rates starting from about 11.5% a year, funding 70–75% of the valued price over 12–60 months, typically for machines up to 5–7 years old (Mehar Advisory).
- Bank vs NBFC: indicative bands are about 9–12% at public-sector banks, 10–13% at private banks and 13–18% at NBFCs, with NBFCs approving faster (DesiMachines, Aug 2026).
- New-machine schemes: manufacturers run their own offers, for example JCB India advertises up to 90% loan at 8.5% on excavators, T&C apply (JCB India). These usually apply to new machines.
- Papers: PAN, Aadhaar, 6 months of bank statements, and GST/ITR for firms, plus the machine's year, hours, price, RC/invoice and inspection notes.
InfraX is not a lender. Our loan desk prepares the file and takes it to banks and NBFCs; the lender sets the rate and decides. See also the loan documents checklist.
Inspection checklist before you pay
- Documents: invoice/RC, insurance, loan NOC, and the chassis and engine numbers matching the papers.
- Cold start: start it cold; watch smoke colour and listen for knocking.
- Run it 20–30 minutes: check pump noise, swing, travel in both directions and cylinder drift with a loaded bucket.
- Leaks: look under the machine and around the hoses, swing motor and final drives.
- Undercarriage: track chain stretch, roller and sprocket wear, idlers.
- Structure: cracks or fresh welding on the boom, arm and bucket linkage; play in pins and bushes.
- Hour meter vs wear: does the wear match the reading?
- Service history: ask for records and the reason for selling.
Our team can inspect a machine for you before you buy. More in our used excavator buying guide.
Selling your excavator: how to get a fair price
Buyers pay more when they can trust what they see. Share clear photos (including the hour meter and undercarriage), a short running video, the year, hours, location and your expected price, and keep the invoice/RC, insurance and loan NOC ready. Compare your asking price with similar listings above for the same class, year and condition. You can list your machine with InfraX: we verify it, show it to genuine buyers and keep your phone number private.

Frequently asked questions
What is the price of a used 20 ton excavator in India?
In public listings we checked on 28 Oct 2026, most used 20–22 ton excavators (Tata Hitachi EX200/EX210, JCB NXT 205/215, Komatsu, Hyundai R210, SANY, Kobelco) were asking between about ₹20 lakh and ₹45 lakh. Older 2010–2014 machines were listed as low as ₹11 lakh and a 2022 JCB NXT 215 at ₹50 lakh. These are seller asking prices on IndiaMART, not final deal prices.
What does a new 20 ton excavator cost in India in 2026?
New-machine reference prices on listing sites in October 2026 were roughly ₹51–57 lakh for a SANY SY210C-9, ₹56–58 lakh for a JCB NXT 205, ₹60–65 lakh (ex-factory) for a Tata Hitachi EX 210LC Prime on DesiMachines, ₹62–72 lakh for a Volvo EC210 and ₹65–75 lakh for a Komatsu PC210-10M0. Some sites still show older, lower figures, so always take a dated dealer quote.
What is the price of a used JCB JS140 or other 14 ton excavator?
Used JCB JS140 listings on IndiaMART on 28 Oct 2026 asked ₹11.5–16 lakh. Tata Hitachi ZAXIS 120H / ZX140 class machines asked ₹19–32 lakh, depending on year. A new JCB NXT 140 is listed at ₹45–47 lakh.
How much is a used mini excavator in India?
Public listings for used 2–5 ton minis (Tata Hitachi ZAXIS 23U, Kubota U30, SANY SY55U, Tata Hitachi NX30) ranged from about ₹7.5 lakh to ₹22 lakh. New 2–3 ton minis such as the JCB 30 PLUS are listed at ₹26–28 lakh ex-factory.
Is GST charged on a used excavator?
Excavators fall under HSN 8429, where GST is 18%. A registered dealer or company selling a used machine will usually charge GST on the invoice; a private individual who is not registered generally does not. Ask your CA how it applies to your deal and whether you can claim input tax credit.
Can I get a loan on a used excavator?
Yes. Banks and NBFCs finance used construction equipment. Published starting rates for used machines begin around 11.5% a year, typically funding 70–75% of the valued price over 12–60 months. NBFCs are faster but usually charge more than banks. InfraX is not a lender; our finance desk prepares the file and takes it to lenders.
